Zealous Alchemy is the pseudonym of UK-based printmaker Jack Williams. He works in the medium of woodcut and describes himself as a xylographer (an archaic term for the art of woodcut printmaking). By bringing together his eclectic interest with the medium of woodcut, he aims to bring a new angle to the medium.
His most impressive print so far is “The Great Arab Revolt (1916-1918)” a large woodcut which depicts a Bedouin camelry charge. This piece was created to show a different theatre of The Great War and pays homage to the legacy of the Arab peoples and T. E. Lawrence (better known as Lawrence of Arabia). This piece was recently accepted to be exhibited at Ipswich Printweek 2023.
Jack is currently studying a degree in Art Practice at West Suffolk College, located in Bury St. Edmunds.
