Profile
My name is Zach Rush and I am an Artist, Designer & Printmaker based in Cornwall.
I have a holistic approach to image making. The lines on my page are a reflection of my thoughts, so drawing for me is a form of cathartic introspection. My work explores themes of the transitory human experience and where the inner world and the outer world meet, finding humour in the absurdity of life. I hope that people similarly connect with these feelings within my work, but draw their own interpretations.
Working in the printed medium slows my process down, allowing me to leave my thinking brain behind and lets me think with my hands. I find it to be the perfect antidote for both a chaotic mind and an ever more digitally demanding world.
I have been collaborating with surfboard maker Andrew Teasdale under the name Ziran. Our company is a celebration of alternative surfboards, printmaking, DIY ethics and creative play. Surfboards as a canvas lend themselves to long thin images, which is both an exciting limitation and a challenge to ensure the composition printed on a page works alongside the stacked imagery for the board. This has since informed my creative process; I’m always asking myself how I can cross-pollinate ideas, mediums and applications to create a greater narrative. This way of working keeps print & design infinitely exciting to me.
