Profile
Hi. I’m Su & I’m a printmaker & jewellery designer from Lincolnshire, UK.
As an artist, I am inspired by my rural home. My practice is based on an engagement with ferns, (lots of ferns!) pebbles & a fascination with all things botanical; from first bud to the beauty in decay.
Sustainability is at the heart of what I do. What I create is naturally unique & I have positioned myself as an ethical choice. I work from my home studio, near where I grow or find, many of the botanicals featured in my work.
I print on a Gunning etching press, which came to me, second-hand, from another artist. I use a range of print techniques; collagraph, Gelli print, solar plates, monoprint, exploring the qualities of each when communicating my love of all things botanical. Even where working with solar plates, doing a limited edition run, each piece has its own subtle differences, making every artwork one of a kind.
My work uses safe wash inks, acrylics (in nature linked or muted tones and some metallics) as well as paper from sustainable sources. Producing eco-friendly products wherever possible is one of my key values. That’s why my designs are packaged free from any plastic wrapping.
I have been sponsored by Arts Council England (2022) to develop my creative practice over 12 months, & I aim to create a manifesto from the findings of my research at the end of the project.
I pride myself on making art which is accessible; helping buyers find pieces which truly resonate with them as nature lovers.
