Profile
My name is Sofie and I’m a printmaker & illustrator. I live in Waalre, the Netherlands, together with my partner, our two little girls and Zappa the cat.
I’ve been drawing since I was a little girl, and I was always sure I would be doing a creative job of some sort in the future. I ended up studying Graphic Design at the ArtEZ Academy of Arts in Arnhem. During that time I had very little time to draw, it wasn’t a part of the education either. After a few years, I started to realise I really missed drawing, creating things with my hands. So I started creating again; drawing, painting, learning how to screen print on different materials, and so on.
In 2016 I fell in love with block printing and decided to focus on improving my skills. I invested in some very nice tools, paper and ink, and got my fingers dirty.
I mainly work in relief print, most of my work are linocut prints. I’m exploring woodcut as well, and since the beginning of 2020 I’ve been working developing my wood engraving skills as well.
Subjects I like to work with are: nature, human figures, landscapes, sun & moon, and hair… lots of hair. You could describe my work as being full of details, mainly black and white with a very small dash of color here and there. It often involves cats and tiny houses too.
