Hi! My name is Mary Beth Meeks and I’m a self-taught block print artist from Jasper, Alabama. I received my Bachelor of Human Science degree specializing in Apparel Design from Auburn University. Shortly after graduating I worked in the design department of Southern Living at Home designing products for their direct sales catalogs. After receiving my Masters degree in Education I taught school for 9 years while also having three little girls of my own. After seeing someone carve into a linoleum block one day I decided to try it and never looked back. I love the complexity of the process and the simplicity of the outcome. There’s so much work which goes into preparing the block and then peeling the paper back to see all of the hard work come to fruition is my favorite part. I tend to use non-traditional methods to ink my blocks and love working on fish and flowers. I also work closely with local Riverkeepers to bring awareness to the native fish species and the importance of conservation. When I’m not printing I love fly fishing and spending time with my family near water. Print making has given me the opportunity to combine my love for the outdoors, conservation and art.
