The emotion of colour…
Lucy’s fine art training started at Bournville College of Art, moving on to a BA in Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University. Lucy established her first print studio in Shoreditch in 1992 using traditional screen-printing methods combined with hand painting – later embracing digital processes which launched her into the world of design and printed apparel.
Lucy has always used a bold linear narrative driven by colour which has given her a distinctive handwriting favoured by performance sportswear and lifestyle brands, and global trend agencies. –
During 2020, Lucy has returned to printmaking and painting to develop her process. Drawing influences from her design career, Lucy questions the fusion of opposing themes. She creates a landscape of contradiction; analogue & digital, natural & hyperreal anchored by her signature use of colour, where two worlds exist in harmony. Her work evolves intuitively, layering gestural abstract painting with intermixed printing techniques creating a visual language of emotion and connection.
As a fellow of the RSA Lucy is passionate about nurturing young talent to gain fair entry into the arts. Lucy has worked with local charities Bootstrap and Arts Emergency, to share her experience and expertise mentoring young aspiring artists and designers.
