Profile
As an artist living in the Bronx, New York City, urban images are central to my work. I am fascinated by the patterns of bridges, elevated train stations and water towers Patterns of biological and botanical forms also abound in my art. Though primarily a printmaker, I mix media often. Collage with prints, chin colee, sewing – whatever is needed to get the right color or texture.
My oldest son Orlando, now deceased, used to encourage me to showcase more imagination in my art. Now when I am able to use humor or imagination in my work, I do it as a sort of tribute to him.
I have a degree in visual art from Empire SUNY (2005) and an MFA with a concentration in printmaking from Lehman College CUNY, (2010). In 2006 I had a solo show at the N.Y.C. Transit Museum and at the Manhattan campus of Empire College. I have worked with 2 non-profit art groups in the Bronx: Bronx Printmakersand Studio 889. In Studio889 professional artists gathered with others to make prints and teach printmaking to children and adults of the local community. Years later, after a decade of personal struggles, I have started reaching out again to other artists and printmakers.
