Profile
Hey, my name is Hagai. I am crazy about screen printing. In my works I assemble a new perspective on myths of the Hebrew-Israelite culture, through unorthodox use of biblical and modern icons.
I am Fascinated with the potential of silk-screen to produce vivid color fields, and I often use an array of paper cut-outs to form the compositions of my prints, creating blocks of uniform color. My creative process Involves a deep dive into my cultural heritage, taking in the landscapes, archeology, ancient texts and bizarre imagery found in dark corners of archives. When printing I often feel like a one-man-expedition to the holy land, gathering a collection of local icons into my prints.
After some years as Studio Manager at Hamelaha Screen Printing Workshop in Tel-Aviv, I fell in love with the communal aspect of printmaking and I am involved in the development of new print initiatives in Israel.
