Christoph Vieweg

Christoph Vieweg is a visual artist, illustrator, and print maker based in Berlin, Germany. His work bridges the abstract and the figurative, seamlessly blending the boundaries between applied design, illustration, and visual art. Through expressive, experimental, and multilayered pieces, he playfully constructs complex visual worlds. At th core of his creative process lies an emphasis on process itself—both as a design tool and an artistic practice that he actively cultivates and manifests. His techniques range from drawing and collage to traditional printmaking methods such as woodcut, linocut, and screen printing, which he revisits regularly in his work.

Vieweg draws inspiration from everyday life—encounters, themes, and phenomena that shape our shared social environment. In his series “Soweit die Meldungen 2015, 2025”, he followed radio news broadcasts for an entire year, creating one drawing a day in response to a selected story. Other sources of inspiration include poetry collections such as “Vergessenes Oval/ Gedichte aus dem Nachlass von W. Kandinsky,” which serve as a basis for his illustrations. The medium of the sketchbook diary is another key element of his artistic practice, prominently featured in the film “Schlaf” by director Michael Venus, where he illustrated the diary of the lead character Marlene (Sandra Hüller). His most recent illustrations appear in an edition by Büchergilde Gutenberg, where he provided artwork for Stefan Zweig’s “Schachnovelle”.

In addition to his fine art, Christoph Vieweg designs posters for musicians and bands and has a deep enthusiasm for textile design in all forms. A child of the 1990s, he remains rooted in the subcultural landscape of street culture from which h emerged. Hip-hop and graffiti were the entry points tohis artistic journey and continue to influence his work to this day. His pieces act as a cultural seismograph—tapping into the pulse of societyand reflecting it with a blend of critique and humor that defines his creative voice.
