Profile
Chris Richford is a multidisciplinary artist now based in London. His current work revolves around lino & silkscreen printmaking as well as alternative fashion.
Growing up in rural Buckinghamshire and opting to study Biology & Plant Genetics in Norwich over a formal art education, Chris fostered his early fascination with the natural world and this knowledge has formed the seed of inspiration for his ever evolving art practice. Chris began his artistic career by joining the artist led studio “Print To The People” in Norwich. There he was able to build the basis for his brand of hand printed anti-fashion designs “Mantid Snip”, allowing him to pursue creative work full-time. Chris now teaches Silkscreen and Lino-cut workshops in south London as well as creating diverse and expansive art that transcends the printmaking medium.
In his words “The study of nature is a source of both boundless wonder and indeed horror! As conscious animals we have necessarily created narratives: myths & theologies to contextualise our experience of life within nature and the value of our subjective experience of life cannot be quantified. I think the narratives which contextualise our lived experience should bring us together, enrich and empower us, not confine, exclude and subjugate. Under a false narrative the mind struggles to catch up with the reality that is presented by the world. That we are all beautiful mutants.”
