Profile
Jess McKiernan is a professional printmaker and educator based in the southwest of Western Australia. Her vibrant, layered screen-prints are inspired by the rich local landscape and flora of the region.
Each colour layer is registered by eye and printed on top of the last in a reduction method.
“By breaking down the complex visual elements of the natural world into a series of carefully registered colour layers, I aim to evoke a sense of depth, movement, and emotion within my prints. The resulting artwork is a meditation on the beauty that can be found in my immediate surroundings – a celebration of the colours, shapes, and patterns that so often go unnoticed in the day-to-day.”
Jess lectures in printmaking and art history whilst also creating her reduction screen-prints from her home studio in the Margaret River Region in Western Australia.
