Profile
Lara Grufferty is a multi-disciplinary artist from Cork, specialising in a diverse range of printmaking techniques. Lara has just graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design with a BA (hons) in Fine Art, Print Contemporary Practice. Her work has been displayed internationally and nationally in numerous self-initiated, group and inter-disciplinary exhibitions. Lara’s printmaking practice consists of planographic processes such as monoprint, screen-print and lithography. Her work is interested in the colours and textures created on the printed surface through process. Planography achieves the intended results quickly. Experimentation and play are quintessential to Lara in her practice, she tries to approach her practice with humour and a smile.
Her current series of work ‘Creid é nó ná Creid (Believe it or Not)’ extracts elements from fairy-tales, mythology and folklore and amalgamates them with fragments from family anecdotes regarding the artist’s mother, grand-mother, twin sister, as well as the artist, herself. The intention is to symbolise a close relationship between women and the natural environment.
