Hi There!
I’m Abbie and I started Pretty Little Art Print a year ago during the start of the pandemic, improving my skills in linocut and printmaking. The subjects of my artwork are usually women, flowers, nature, and plants. More recently, I have taken up life drawing, and have created many linocuts from these sketches, particularly of nude women. My work includes a range of handprinted pieces using a barren, and those printed on a printing press, including an Albion Press at the printing studio I am a member of (Leeds Print Workshop). In addition to traditional linocut prints, I also like to work with multi-layered reduction linocuts for some designs. I love how versatile using linoleum is, such as how my designs can be used for art prints, textiles, and greetings cards. My full-time job is currently as a PhD researcher in reproductive biology, where I study diabetes in pregnancy. I also like to incorporate this theme into some of my art, creating prints of pregnant women, twin pregnancies, and the placenta. Throughout my PhD I have developed public engagement activities which incorporate my love of printmaking with my research, creating tutorial videos on how to create lino and mono prints of the placenta as well as creating and sending packs of placenta-themed printing equipment to school children. Therefore, in addition to developing my own printmaking skills, I like to inspire others and younger generations in these techniques, and in science through these activities.
