Profile
Lorenzo is a dedicated printmaker, working in particular with experimental processes involving woodcuts, etching and monotype.
His process is one where accidental gestures are counterbalanced by the controlled application of the technique. Decisions regarding marks, lines and colours are taken intuitively and rapidly; in this experimental method, planning is as valid as improvisation or accident. This dichotomy echoes the process of knowledge building and is reflected through a series of trials and errors, provisional states and in-between shapes.
Lorenzo’s series of geometrical prints are constructed by using traditional plates, as well as found material, for example, fabric, ribbons and paper offcuts. The prints feature ambiguous objects; shapes that are more suggestive of movement and temporality rather than mass, space or volume.
He graduated from the London College of Communication with an MA in Illustration. He has since exhibited internationally in a number of galleries and festivals, including the Royal Society of Painters Printmakers, in 2019; the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, in 2019; the Mark Rothko Museum (Latvia, 2020). He was selected for the Open Portfolio edition of FIG Bilbao 2019, and as an artist in residence at the 9th Latgale Graphic Arts Symposium.
His work is collected by the China Printmaking Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum (Print collection), and the Mark Rothko Museum.
