The beauty of imperfection is reflected in an expressive face, an imagined floral or an architectural space. The irregularities of my printed lithography practice carries through in all of these subjects. This imperfection creates an empathy for our own frailties.
My practice is in lithography and drawing. My paper lithography technique has layers of printmaking and drawing applications so that each piece is a monoprint. First, I shoot the photographic image. Then, once digitally altered, I print the image using a paper transfer process with oil-based ink. I then layer the work with hand-colored pastel, pencil, or watercolor to create unique monoprints.
To make large prints, I tile the images and build very large multi-sheet images. I love making and coloring these scaled pieces where the irregularities are punched up and easily examined.
I have recently been working with text-based imagery, to examine social issues and historical events involving discrimination.
