Profile
Grace Tesmer is an interdisciplinary designer and artist based in Columbus, Ohio, USA. She graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial and Innovative Design and a minor in Graphic Design. By day, she works as an industrial designer at a product design firm. On nights and weekends, she is busy growing Studio Esteldor, her artistic outlet.
Grace began printmaking in 2019 when she found her grandmother’s old Speedball linocut tools in a forgotten box. Carving that old crumbly piece of speedy carve with a rusty carving tool, she fell in love with the process and has been learning and practicing ever since. She has since upgraded to sharper tools and now prefers gomuban for her block material.
Grace is inspired by nature and many of her prints feature a botanical theme. Growing up on a farm in rural Illinois, she was surrounded with the time, space and inspiration needed to thrive as a creative individual from a young age. She enjoys taking an abstract feeling or idea and communicating it through art. She believes the most rewarding part of sharing art is seeing how it resonates with others. She takes inspiration from the Art Nouveau period, vintage engravings, iconic mid century design, Japanese design, tattoo design, Bauhaus philosophy, and Swiss graphic design, among other influences. Grace keeps a long note of ideas and concepts for future art, and only hopes for the time to explore them all.
Grace also enjoys being an active member of the online printmaking community, always eager to share her process and what she has learned through trial and error. She is always open to any inquiry, whether it is about her process, a collaboration or a commission.
