Profile
Aoife Claffey is a printmaker based in Cork, Ireland. She is a Fine Art graduate of the Crawford College of Art and Design. Graduating with First Class Honours, she creates installations with a range of mediums combining Printmaking, Photography, Video, Sound with the addition of Found Objects. She is currently undertaking an M.A in Art and Process in CCAD.
In her print work, she layers photography layered digital prints and screen prints. She prints these onto reflective and translucent materials such as perspex and glass to create shadows in her sculpture installations.
Using these translucent layers of imagery, she create immersive environments that transform unexpectedly each time the work is encountered. She aims to provide an ambiguous space for the viewer to recall the peripheral, a space that’s in the midst of a constant, perpetual transformation; a non-space.
Claffey was awarded a Cork Printmakers Emerging Artist Bursary Award for 2019/2020. When this ended she was then awarded Cork Printmakers Fellowship award for another year in 2021.
Since graduating from her Degree, Aoife has received a number of residency and exhibition awards including: the Cork Film Centre Exhibition Award; Bloomers ‘Emerging Female Artists’ award; and has shown work with IndieCork Film Festival; PRINT.ED #5, at the Espai Cultural Eina, Barra De Ferro, Barcelona; and her work is held in both public and private collections including Eli Lilly.
